Privacy Breach Index

First released in August 2008, the Privacy Breach Index™ (PBI) benchmarking tool measures a company's response to a privacy data breach and can help:

Improve existing procedures used to prevent a data breach;
Determine where an organization is most vulnerable; and
Benchmark a company's response against similar companies.

The PBI was created by the Ponemon Institute by analyzing completed surveys of 768 individuals in the data protection, IT security and compliance professions. Each survey participant reported that their organization had a privacy data breach within the past 24 months.
